Public Works Department

Street improvements, city facility upgrades, tree removal and normal street and drainage maintenance made up last year's agenda for Superintendent Carlton Webb and his Public Works Department.

A majorproject was the demolition and removal of the old recreation department facilities to make way for the new youth resource center at the corner of Jefferson Street and Martin Luther King Drive. Working with the Turner County crew, the city staff also helped with improvements to the new industrial park just north of town. Grass cutting on right-of-ways and city properties, litter pickup, sign replacements, street patching, cemetery maintenance and sidewalk repairs take many man hours annually. The staff has adopted a goal of efficiency, cost effectiveness and highest quality work. The Public Works Department personnel are: Jerry Minshew, Keith Burgess, Jimmie Trawick, Billy Hampton, Eddie Edmondson, Keith Cochran, Wayne Calhoun, Richard Chancey, and Dennis Johnson.
