Sewer Department
Under the direction of Ricky Cornelious, Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor, the staff operates the plant, performs lab tests, handles preventative maintenance, does lift station maintenance, and collects and tests drinking water samples. The highlight for last year was the going on-line of the new facility that meets the discharge limits prescribed by the Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
With expansion capabilities, the new plant should handle the city's needs for sewer treatment for many years to come. Last year, almost 252 million gallons of wastewater were treated, and this consumed in excess of 3,700 pounds of chlorine and 8,000 pounds of sodium bisulfite in the process. Lift station maintenance included replacement of pumps and using over 300 gallons of degreaser to control scum and grease buildup. Ricky is assisted by Melvin Terrell, Willie Stafford, and Joey Browning.
